A Different Kind of Biltmore Stay
Visiting Biltmore Estate doesn't mean you need to stay at the estate. Wrong Way River Lodge & Cabins puts you minutes from America's largest private home while offering something Biltmore's own hotels do not: A-frame cabins perched above the French Broad River, surrounded by trees instead of parking lots.
Our cabins near Biltmore Estate give you a home base that feels like an escape. Spend your days exploring the estate's gardens, winery, and 8,000-acre grounds. Come back to a private balcony overlooking the river greenway, a comfortable bed, and a crackling campfire in the Meadow outdoor area.
How Close Are We to Biltmore?
Wrong Way River Lodge sits approximately 8 miles from Biltmore Estate's main entrance, which translates to a 15-minute drive, depending on traffic. You'll head south on the French Broad River corridor, one of Asheville's most scenic routes.
Driving distances from Wrong Way:
- Biltmore Estate Main Entrance: ~ 5 minutes
- Biltmore Village (shops and restaurants): ~ 5 minutes
- Biltmore Winery: ~ 15 minutes
- Downtown Asheville: ~ 5 minutes
- Blue Ridge Parkway (nearest access): ~ 20 minutes
The location works in your favor. You're close enough to visit Biltmore without feeling like you're staying in a tourist corridor, and you're positioned between the estate and downtown Asheville for easy access to both.
Why Choose Cabins Over Biltmore's Hotels
Biltmore operates two on-site hotels: The Inn on Biltmore Estate and Village Hotel on Biltmore Estate. Both are excellent properties. They're also designed to host you on the estate grounds.
Staying at Wrong Way gives you something different.
Standalone Structures
Our A-frame cabins are standalone structures, not hotel rooms sharing walls with strangers. Each cabin includes a private balcony, a queen bed, a sleeper sofa, and a full bathroom. You have your very own cabin.
A Different Kind of View
Biltmore's hotels overlook manicured grounds and their estate. Our cabins overlook the French Broad River Greenway from 12–14 feet in the air. It's a different aesthetic entirely.
Pet-Friendly
Biltmore's hotels have pet policies with weight limits and breed restrictions. Wrong Way welcomes dogs without the fine print. No weight limits. No breed restrictions. No judgment.
Freedom to Explore
When you stay on the Biltmore property, the gravitational pull keeps you there. Staying off-site makes it easier to experience the rest of Asheville: the food scene downtown, the breweries, the hiking trails, the river itself.
An Outdoor Hotel Experience
Wrong Way isn't a traditional cabin rental or a standard hotel. It's Asheville's only outdoor hotel, combining the service and amenities of boutique lodging with architecture and programming designed to immerse you in the landscape. On-site staff, common gathering spaces, and direct trail access come standard.

Planning Your Biltmore Visit
Biltmore Estate requires advance tickets for daytime visits. A few things worth knowing:
Book tickets early. Popular dates sell out, especially weekends and holidays. Purchase directly through Biltmore's website.
Budget enough time. The house tour alone takes 60–90 minutes. Add the gardens, conservatory, Antler Hill Village, and winery, and you can easily spend a full day. Many visitors split their time across two days.
Consider the season. Spring brings Biltmore in bloom with new plants and flowers blooming weekly. Summer offers longer hours and outdoor concerts. Fall features wine and food events. Winter means Christmas at Biltmore, which transforms the house with decorations and candlelight tours.
Eat strategically. Biltmore has multiple restaurants on the estate, but for variety, head into Asheville or Biltmore Village after your visit. The local food scene is one of the best in the South.
A Sample Biltmore Weekend from Wrong Way
Here's how a two-night stay might look.
Friday Evening: Arrive at Wrong Way, check in, settle into your cabin. Walk the French Broad River Greenway as the sun sets. Grab dinner in the River Arts District (5 minutes away) or order takeout and eat on your balcony.
Saturday Morning: Enjoy coffee on the balcony. Head to Biltmore Estate for the house tour and gardens. Eat lunch at Cedric's Tavern or the Stable Café on the estate. Spend the afternoon at the winery for a tasting. Return to Wrong Way, decompress, then have dinner downtown.
Sunday: Sleep in. Grab breakfast at a local spot in West Asheville. If you have energy, revisit Biltmore for Antler Hill Village and the farm, or skip it entirely and spend the morning kayaking on the French Broad. Check out by noon.
The point: you can do Biltmore thoroughly while staying across the river for a totally unique experience.
