You've got questions? We've got answers! Below are answers to questions we often get, but feel free to Contact Us if you still need help with something.
An "outdoor cabin hotel" is a lodging option that offers primarily/exclusively cabin accommodations on a natural, outdoor-centered property, but in an urban area. It is important to know that Wrong Way is NOT a traditional campground. It is an outdoor oasis in an urban area of Asheville. It has all the sights and sounds that come with that environment, including traffic noise from the adjacent road. The tradeoff is convenience to many popular Asheville outdoor AND urban attractions, including the French Broad River Greenway, several outdoor recreation parks, the River Arts District, West Asheville's Haywood Rd, the Biltmore Estate, and downtown Asheville.
Click the BOOK NOW button at the top of the page and enter the date range for your intended stay. Be sure to indicate the appropriate number of guests/animals that will staying and the select the 'Wheelchair-friendly' or 'Pet-friendly' checkbox if you require cabins with these features.
Check-in time is after 3pm and Check-out time is before 11am. See the next FAQ for information about early check-in and late check-out requests.
Normal check-in is 3pm and normal check-out is 11am. We allow early check-ins (1pm) and late check-outs (1pm) for a fee of $30, but only with advance approval, ideally 24 hours before check-in/out. Please email your early check-in or late check-out requests to sales@wrongwaycampground.com. We have a small team that has to work quickly through a predetermined cleaning schedule in order to get everything ready for our guests. Guests that arrive early without prior approval are welcome to wait in the River Lodge until normal check-in time. Guests that depart more than 15 minutes past check-out time without prior approval will be charged a $50 fee, as the disruption will result in additional labor and may impact the on-time check-in of another guest. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this policy so we can ensure smooth operations and on-time cleaning.
Reservations cancelled 14 days or more before arrival will receive a full refund. Reservations cancelled less than 14 days before arrival will be charged 50% of the stay. Reservations cancelled less than 2 days before arrival will be charged the full amount of the stay. No refunds will be given for no-shows or early departures. We encourage guests to consider travel insurance to cover costs resulting from unplanned circumstances.
Several of our cabins are designated as dog-friendly. A pet fee of $30/pet/night will automatically be added to the per night rate when you indicate how many animals you have with you. While on the property, we ask that all pets be kept on-leash and closely managed by their humans. Sorry, we do not allow cats.
All of our cabins have a queen size bed and queen size fold-out floor futon so we are saying that the limit is 2 adults and 2 youth. Our standard cabins have a studio-style, open floor plan while our deluxe cabins have a privacy wall and door between the two sleeping areas.
The French Broad River right across the street is a big part of our origin story and the guest experience. The Wrong Way name is a nod to a local raft guide story about the French Broad River being one of the few rivers in the world, along with the Nile, that flow South to North... which is the ‘Wrong Way’. We also feel that the Wrong Way name reflects our unconventional approach to traditional lodging and hospitality concepts. We only go with the flow when it comes to rivers... Otherwise, we like to find our own lines.
For the respect and comfort of our guests and the surrounding community, we maintain quiet hours from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am.
Our entire property is 100% smoke free (including e-cigarettes).
All our cabins include:
The communal River Lodge has an event space with a capacity of 36 seated and 60 standing, an 8-person conference room for group meetings, and a "Canteen" with grab-n-go market, cafe/bar, and indoor/outdoor seating. Click HERE for pictures and more info.
There is a two-night minimum on weekends. One-night stays are allowed on the weekdays.
No. We made the decision to exclude TVs from the cabins in order to encourage guests to get outside to enjoy the attractions, businesses, and activities that are right out your front door. If you HAVE to be inside, read/write a book, play a game, gather in the River Lodge... you've got other options. You’re welcome.
We do not.
We use eco-friendly cleaning products and follow the CDC’s recommendations for commercial cleaning practices. However, To limit waste and guest interruption, we only clean cabins upon guest departure. While we do not charge a fee for cleaning the cabin upon departure, guests can request cabin cleaning during their stay for an additional fee of $25/day.
Cabin #1 is fully ADA compliant and can be accessed from the parking lot by a gravel path. Click here to check availability and pricing.
Well, only if you call microwaving, cooking :). All cabins have a microwave, mini-fridge, and hot water kettle. You can check out our Explore page for recommendations on nearby dining options. Or better yet, stop into the River Lodge Canteen for a curated selection of snacks, pastries, and beverages!
We do not offer RV hookups or tent pads due to the urban location and proximity to Amboy Road, but our friends down the road at Wilson's RV Park might be able to accommodate you. Tell 'em we sent you!

Hell yes! We have several experiences that can be reserved through us or one of our vetted experience partners... Or you can explore our map of local recommended attractions, businesses, and activities.

We have the best outdoor exercise area in all of Western NC! We are located right across the street from the French Broad River Greenway, which includes walking/running/biking paths, cycling velodrome, sand volleyball courts, basketball court, baseball field, lawn bowling court, roller-hockey rink, playground, and public river access. We are also located right next door to the ClimbMax rock climbing center which has indoor and outdoor climbing walls.
The campground property is located on the French Broad River Greenway directly across the road from the river and recreation path, which can easily be accessed by a crosswalk at the East end of the property. A public river access point and fishing platform is less than 100 yards from the property.
You can check out the French Broad River discharge rate (cfs) and water level (ft) by visiting the USGS website. You can also view a live feed of the French Broad River in West Asheville.

Asheville fall foliage typically peaks in mid to late October, though colors begin appearing at higher elevations along the Blue Ridge Parkway in late September. Lower elevations and river valleys hold their color into early November, giving you a wider window than you might expect.
October is Asheville's peak fall season, so expect more visitors, especially on weekends. Booking your cabin early is the best way to secure your dates. Weekday stays in October tend to be a bit quieter while still offering peak color.
November brings late-season foliage in the valleys, the start of holiday lights at the Biltmore Estate and NC Arboretum, and fewer crowds overall. It's a great time for quieter hikes, exploring the River Arts District, and enjoying cozy evenings by the campfire at your cabin.
Yes. Every cabin has HVAC, so you can keep things warm on chilly fall mornings and cool if we get a warm afternoon. You'll also have a comfortable queen bed, a private bathroom, WiFi, a mini-fridge, and a microwave.
Absolutely. We offer dog-friendly cabins with no weight limits and no breed restrictions. Fall is a wonderful time to travel with your dog since the cooler temperatures make hiking and exploring much more comfortable for pups.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a short drive from our property. You can reach popular fall overlooks like Craggy Gardens and the Mount Pisgah area within about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on which section you're heading to.
Wrong Way River Lodge & Cabins is 1 mile from the River Arts District, 2 miles from the Biltmore Estate, and 3 miles from downtown Asheville. You're close to everything without being in the middle of the crowds.
We recommend it, especially for October weekends during peak leaf season. Fall is one of the most popular times to visit Asheville, and our cabins tend to fill up. Booking a few weeks ahead gives you the best selection of dates and cabin types.
Stay at Wrong Way to experience Asheville's unconventional, outdoor-centered personality.
